In a world of GMO’s, pesticides, herbicides, and impossible-to-pronounce chemical additives, there is finally a beacon of hope for restaurant goers who don’t want to have to worry about what might be in their food. Nestled under the North Park sign is a 100% organic restaurant that is offering an exciting paradigm shift in healthy dining. I like to think of it as an organic soup kitchen that brings healthy food to the masses. Because I like to eat as healthy as possible but don’t like to cook, this place is a lifesaver for a busy health nut like myself.
When you first walk in, prepare to be awed by the high ceilings and natural wood. The communal tables in the center of the room invite strangers to chat. Diners walk to the front of the line where alkalized water, juice blends, loose leaf teas, coffee, beer and wine await — again, this is all organic. After grabbing a drink, you have your choice of two soups and/or salad to go with your entree. Casa de Luz (translated means “House of Light”) rotates their chefs each week and — as one of their signs proclaim — nature is their meal planner, so every visit promises a nice surprise. Prices for the food itself range from an affordable $10-17, depending on how many dishes you’re having with your meal. Be forewarned, getting a soup, salad and entree was more than this health nut could finish; so if you’re like me and you like to sample everything, bring a crusty health nut friend who can split some of your food with you.
Whether you’re coming for breakfast, lunch or dinner, your meal will most likely be something different than the last time you were here. The food is also vegan, local, gluten-free and created from a macrobiotic philosophy, so picky health nuts can rejoice in the fact that this place has gotten a check in the box for every good deed across the board. They even have a composting drop-off station when you’re finished with your meal! For all these reasons and more, Casa de Luz has earned our first-ever PERFECT FIVE-STAR RATING in all categories. Congrats guys; keep up the good work!
